A Very Special Gift

The work we are privileged to do–advancing disability justice by co-creating safe, affordable, community-integrated homes–is deeply humbling.

Each day, we get to share in the joyful experiences of people with disabilities achieving their goals and dreams for stable housing, and the many benefits this brings: increased equity and justice, stronger communities, and improved mental, physical, and financial wellbeing.

Occasionally, we get to share in the extraordinary joy of a very special gift. We are incredibly grateful for the recent extremely generous donation of a beautiful 4-bedroom house in Stoughton, Wisconsin, from Terri and Henry Jasen.

The Jasen’s adult son, Kyle, lived in the wheelchair-accessible house with his roommates for several years. After his recent passing, the Jasen’s wanted to make sure that Kyle’s housemates could remain in their home. Thanks to their vision and generosity, Movin’ Out will be able to fulfill their wish that “the house will serve people with disabilities for many years to come.”

Living in regular housing in ordinary neighborhoods, with supportive services selected by residents based on their individual needs and preferences, offers people with disabilities the opportunity to engage in their community and share their unique talents and abilities. The larger community benefits from greater diversity and the various viewpoints and perspectives that it brings.

We are tremendously fortunate that, with support from families like the Jasens, we can continue to work toward our vision of thriving communities inspired by people with disabilities that provide equitable, accessible, and affordable housing for all.
